In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks…
John Muir

During these unprecedented and uncertain times, I know that for me, the consistency of nature has made life a little more bearable. Thank goodness Parkville has quite a few parks and trails for us to enjoy. We can enjoy five different parks, two nature sanctuaries and miles of trails. From bikers and runners to children and picnic goers, there is something and someplace for everyone. Let’s take a look at our Parkville Parks.

English Landing Park

English Landing Park is hopping with people on any given nice day. It boasts 68 acres along the Missouri River. There are three miles of walking/biking trails, a playground, a boat ramp, picnic areas, disc golf course and sand volleyball. From the view of the beautiful campus of Park University, the Missouri River and the mature tree lined paths, English Landing Park is definitely a gem of our town. It is open daily from 5:30 am until midnight.

Parkville Nature Sanctuary

Another hidden gem in our town is the Parkville Nature Sanctuary. It is located on 12th Street off of Highway 9. It is a wildlife preserve developed by the City of Parkville. There are three miles of hiking trails. It is a shaded hike with a waterfall and the chance to see some of our native Missouri Wildlife. The sanctuary is open daily from dusk to dawn.

The White Tail Loop Trail

The White Tail Loop Trail is adjacent to the Parkville Nature Sanctuary. It’s trails run through the forest. There are four short loop trails that travel up a hillside along a ravine. There is a water fall, wildlife and several streams. It is a gorgeous hike. Important to know that no pets, bikes or motorized vehicles allowed in the sanctuary or loop trail.

Platte Landing Park

Platte Landing Park is located at the end of Main Street and is next to English Landing Park. This is a new park and the first phase of the 140 acres is finished. This park has Platte County’s first off leash dog park and two miles of trails for biking and walking. There is a new boat ramp. It is also open from 5am-midnight daily.

Sullivan Nature Sanctuary

Sullivan Nature Sanctuary is located on the north side of Platte Landing Park along Rush Creek. The land was donated by the Sullivan family.

Pocket Park

Pocket Park is located in downtown Parkville. It has a garden, small stage, benches and an engraved brick garden. It is a nice place to sit and enjoy the historic downtown area.

Watkins Park

Watkin’s Park is one of two neighborhood parks in the City of Parkville. It is just a few blocks from Main Street. It has a picnic area, basketball court, horseshoes, a swing and a small trail.

Adams Park

Adams Park is a mini neighborhood park off of Main Street. It has a small picnic area.

On any decent weathered day, you can find my family, along with many others frequenting all the parks Parkville has to offer.
